What I read on my summer vacation

Between making up stories about Spiderman and dinosaurs with my grandson, I was able to read some books by writers who have aroused my curiosity as we’ve rubbed elbows on the web. Interestingly, three men with seemingly very different books all penned life-affirming messages in their unique ways. Here’s a little snapshot of each work:

Voyage of Purpose: Spiritual Wisdom from Near-Death back to LifeVOYAGE OF PURPOSE by David Bennett is so much more than a NDE (near death experience) recap, although going to the Light, the Life Review and all that jazz is always fascinating. Bennett lives in a place of high spiritual awareness as a result of extreme challenges. The book chronicles his journey through a disjointed childhood, his workaholic engineer days, the NDE experience that changed everything and the excruciating cancer that sharpened all his spiritual sensibilities.  He’s a man living out his Purpose and shining the Light for others to follow.

Dream AngelI may be the only person in America who has read DREAM ANGEL, written by my new Aussie Friend, Pat Ritter. A few weeks ago I received a personal message from Mr. Ritter via Facebook introducing himself as a fellow author from Downunder who has enjoyed my books. I decided to return the favor and see what this fellow was all about. The cover of the book is quite misleading. A Noir-type detective theme with a Columbo cover might be more appropriate, for Mr. Ritter is a retired Australian detective. This autobiography depicts a gentlemen of quality who devoted himself to others through the various avenues of police work that presented itself over the course of forty years. You can almost hear the Aussie lilt as his life unfolds with a sense of destiny underlying it all. The devotion to his work and family shines through. Dream Angel tells the story of a life well-lived.

Drop OutFinally, DROP OUT by Neil D. Ostroff capped off my male-author reading adventures. Neil has dropped by the Indie Romance Author thread at Kindle Boards to promote his book and piqued my curiosity. A romance that begins in the disaster of the World Trade Center? The opening of this novella is riveting and disturbing as the author takes us inside the burning, imploding buildings. His vivid portrayal of the chaos and incredulity of those moments will not soon be forgotten. The story centers on Nathan and the two women who touch his soul. This is a short piece and can be heart-wrenching at times. Ultimately, Nathan has to choose between embracing life or continuing a living death.

All of these books have spiritual underpinnings to challenge readers to look deeper into their own lives. Are you embracing life or just letting it pass on by? I recommend all of them for entertainment and life-affirming inspiration.

Near Death Experience explored in “Voyage of Purpose”

Voyage of Purpose: Spiritual Wisdom from Near-Death back to LifeEver since Dr. Raymond Moody released the ground breaking Life After Life in 1975, near death experiences have been challenging all our traditional ideas of life and death. Now comes a book from David Bennett that goes further to change our paradigms and fire our imaginations: VOYAGE OF PURPOSE: Spiritual Wisdom from Near Death and Back to Life

“David Bennett, once a brash young commercial diver whose personal philosophy was “cut your way through life to survive,” was caught in a violent storm off the California coast one night where he drowned. While technically “dead,” he met beings of light, relived his life, and peeked into his future, resulting in a complete paradigm shift for him. Later, he discovered he had stage IV lung and bone cancer—so advanced that his spine collapsed. Miraculously, he survived once again, and this second close call taught him even more about living, loving, and how to find purpose in his life.

Voyage of Purpose brings readers right into the heart of the near-death experience, including the sensations of dying, being surrounded by the light, and meeting the Soul Family. Part memoir and part guide for achieving spiritual growth, this book shows how to integrate the most traumatic of incidents into one’s spiritual path in order to live a more meaningful life.”

I encourage you to visit VoyageOfPurpose.com and watch the 4 minute video of David as he explains the major events of his life. You can also READ EXCERPTS  and see all the ways David and his wife, Cindy, are using their lives for the betterment of others.David Bennett is a public speaker, and teacher. David has lectured at the International Conference of IANDS (International Association for Near-Death Studies) and shared his inspirational message at groups across the country including Lillydale. He has consulted for both radio and television including Oprah and Dr. Oz as a NDE resource, appearances including being filmed for NBC national news and PBS. David’s articles appear in numerous magazines, blogs and papers.

Akashic Records:Case Studies of Past Lives by Lois Wetzel

Dana Review by Dana Taylor

The reason I’ve been posting about Akashic Records Readings is because learning about a past-life tie and the subsequent difficulties that resulted from that connection in my personal life was a major event. It took me over fifty years to put the pieces of my personal puzzle together, as is chronicled in Ever-Flowing Streams. It’s my hope that some people who are also dealing with mysterious phobias or afflictions that are linked to a past life occurence may be able to shorten the learning curve and move on to a better life.

My bouts of swollen glands, anxiety, and insomnia have all dissipated since my initial Reiki treatment in 2005. It took about three years to unravel the layers of connections, but my health and well-being are vastly improved over my previous four decades of life, largely due to understanding my soul’s long journey.

Akashic Records: Case Studies of Past LivesI recently came across a book by therapist Lois Wetzel entitled Akashic Records: Case Studies of Past Lives. I highly recommend investing $2.99 to read this fascinating compilation of case studies. Wetzel does an excellent job of explaining Akashic Records and the value they hold in helping people heal, break negative patterns, and understand puzzling relationships. Some of the stories are hard to grasp because they feel like a tale of science fiction. But, certainly modern living would seem completely unbelievable to people living only a few decades ago.

Written in a straightforward manner, the book gives example after example of past lives and how they affect modern people. Wetzel’s method of downloading particular lives as revealed by the Records Guardians is very interesting and somewhat different from the method I have experienced. Whereas the Record Readers I have visited have answered specific questions, Wetzel’s clients come in with an overall area they want information about. She then opens her mind up to viewing their past lives as if she is watching a movie.

I found myself looking at life with a broader perspective and a new understanding of karmic ties and cycles.

If you have an interest in past life therapy, read Akashic Records: Case Studies of Past Lives by Lois Wetzel.

Angels in the Living Room

I guess you could call me a “hobbyist healer.” My friends and I get together and when some gals might go shopping, we visit a while and then quietly meditate and “send energy” in what we’ve come to call our Supernal Sessions. Increasingly, we’ve come to sense the presence of helpers, or spiritual team members–Angels, perhaps. So when I saw the book QUANTUM ANGEL HEALING by Eva-Maria Mora, I thought it might shed light on what is happening in my living room.

Quantum Angel Healing: Energy Therapy and Communication with AngelsEva-Maria Mora is a certified Quantum Touch energy healer and founder of Quantum Angel Healing, offering classes and certification in the technique.  I appreciated that she began the book by asking the question of clients–“How does this illness serve you?” I remain a “hobbyist healer” because I discovered long ago that many people don’t really want to be well.

The book is well organized and carries much of the information familiar to energy workers–chakras, auras, crystals, cleansing, prayer, and emotional connections to illness. There is a definite shamanistic influence to the material. She takes it a step further by introducing a cast of Angelic characters–naming them and associating them with energy centers of the body and specific disorders. She identifies them and even nicknames by their greater functions–i.e. Ariel is the Greenpeace angel because she can clean intervene in enviornmental problems. Raphael is the healing angel and helps people get over emotional wounds.

She offers exercises to break down mental barriers and open communication with the angels. One such technique is called the Angel Breath. I practiced this and felt it did seem to widen my sense of connection. Obviously, the material in the book will be suspect in many people’s minds. It is unfamiliar and feels like pure fantasy. The Supernal friends got into a lively discussion about it.

“How does she know all this stuff?” Sue asked.

“I guess her guide, Zohar, gave her all the information,” I replied. “I don’t know. It’s just interesting. I’m not saying it’s infallible Truth.”

So, if you are fascinated by the unseen dimensions of quantum healing and open to the idea of angelic helpers, QUANTUM ANGEL HEALING, will continue on your journey of exploration. And I’m being polite to the angels, just in case they’re actually hanging out in my living room.

The Divine Arsonist, a tale of Awakening

The Divine Arsonist: A Tale of AwakeningMy guest reviewer is author, shaman, and energy healer, Carol Woodliff. She is one several wonderful people I met through the Next Top Spiritual Author competition held a couple of years back. Jacob Norby is another of the authors who has become a friend. Here Carol offers her review of Jacob’s just released novel, The Divine Arsonist, a Tale of Awakening.

The Divine Arsonist by Jacob Norby is the story of a businessman who worked hard to climb the ladder of success only to have something whisper to him that perhaps there was something more to discover.  This is his journey of discovery told in a blend of the personal story and fiction.  It immediately spoke to me of the question:  When do we start dreaming a new dream for ourselves and our world?   The old ways are burning us out.  That’s where Jacob is at the beginning of his journey.  There are so many elements of a shamanic journey, vision quest or hero’s journey from old mythology: meeting spiritual guides, being challenged to endure rites of passage, time in the wilderness, facing the shadow and opening to all the levels of reality beyond our day-to-day “get it done” consciousness.  The writing is luscious, descriptive and an easy read.  I could have easily read it in one sitting but I forced myself to turn off the light at night and savor it over the course of several bedtime reading sessions.  There are beautiful teachings that you want to grab the highlighter to remember.

Jacob’s journey toward finding his light is an invitation or challenge to go on your own journey, to claim your own light.  It is a tale that reminds us that life is short and that we are choosing the world we live in right now with each thought and each action we take. It is a story that reminds us that sometimes we have to let go of everything that we think we know to become the person we came to earth to be. Even though I’ve had my own awakening moments, Jacob’s writing made me want to commit to living them on an even deeper level. Isn’t that what we want a spiritual book to do?

I highly recommend Jacob’s book.  I hope you give it a read.  You can buy The Divine Arsonist on Amazon either in book form or Kindle.

Jacob Nordby is an author, speaker and personal transformation mentor. He is published with Jack Canfield in Pearls of Wisdom: 30 Inspirational Ideas to Live Your Best Life Now“, with Dr. Bernie M. Siegel in “The Thought That Changed My Life” and is currently writing, The Cosmic Compass: An Adventure of Inner Guidance”. Mr. Nordby is the founder and publisher of the popular e-magazine site, YourAwakenedSelf.com.

Intriguing “Runaway Choices”

Runaway Choices - A Christian Speculative Fiction NovelRunaway Choices: A Christian Speculative Novel by Eisley Jacobs is a wonderful example of Indie author creativity. Mixing a Twilight Zone technique with a subtle spiritual message, Jacobs plunges her heroine, Beck, into a fascinating adventure.

Plot Description: Everyone runs from their past; Beck has it mastered. She’s been running for so long, stopping is a foreign concept. With her conning skills and wits at the ready, she’s on a plane to London, free of charge.

Beck believes everything is going as planned, but when reality twists on its axis, she soon wonders whose plan? Teaming up with the gorgeous bellhop, Colin, is a no brainer, especially when they discover their connections are anything but accidental.

In their quest for answers, both are confronted with the demons of their pasts. Beck panics and does what comes naturally — runs. However, she’s not only running from herself, but from the superhuman who has made it his life’s goal to track her down and either remove her from the equation or convince her to join him.

I enjoyed the tale on many levels. First, it is different; not the same story I’ve read a million times. Second, the writing is smooth without the hiccups often seen in Indie authors. Third, Jacobs manages to tell a story with a spiritual message without beating us over the head with message. Using mystical elements and a McGuffin magical necklace, she keeps a plot spinning as Beck learns life lessons. All in all, an interesting excursion into a Rod Serling-like spiritual adventure.
