Near-Death Experience Changes Author’s Outlook

This article was recently featured at the Barb Silkstone’s Second Act Café. I think you’ll find it fascinating. Part One of Two:

Lisa Hinsley has cancer.

At the age of forty, with a loving husband and three children, she was diagnosed with advanced bowel cancer. Lisa is one of those beautiful people who touch many lives in the most gentle ways. For the past one and one-half years, Lisa has been fighting the beast called cancer like a tiger, and inspiring a large group with her courage and generosity.

Penny Sartori has been doing a series of articles for The Daily Mail about near death experiences or NDEs. The latest report had me thinking about my own experience. Here’s the link to Penny Sartori’s article: The Children Who have Near Death Experiences. And here is what I thought about NDEs–I was four years old when I had my near death experience. For weeks I had been suffering from a cough that became steadily worse until one day my parents lost me in the house. They found me hidden in a wardrobe rambling madly with a high fever. At that point I was rushed to the hospital.I don’t remember being delirious in the wardrobe, but I do remember being high in the sky watching my parent’s car pull into a car park. My emotions were detached, I felt nothing, no pain, no fear, no excitement, maybe a slight pull of curiosity as a man I recognized as my father jumped out of the driver’s side. He raced around to the other side of the car to take out a tiny limp body from the back seat. My mother was there too, and the two of them ran off. This is when the odd became most peculiar. I know now they were running to the hospital, but what I saw was far different. There was a crystal city. That is what I have always thought of it as: an enormous city of crystals taking up the entire horizon internally lit with this wonderful silvery-white light. There was no longer an absence of emotions in me, this vision was calm, welcoming, and so very beautiful.

PictureWay down below, my mother and father were running towards the crystal city with my father still holding that tiny limp body. For me there was no tunnel, no being asking me to return, no relatives to greet me, and no urgency to get back to a broken body. I simply came back to myself, all of a sudden. The vision of the crystal city was replaced with a cubicle in the hospital. I was on a bed. A blue curtain was pulled across for privacy. A nurse had a tube down my throat and I coughed my way back into life. This was no dream. They fade over time. This is a memory of a happening. Just as I vividly remember the house we lived in at the time, I remember floating above my body. Just as I remember the family holiday on the island of Sky nine months later, I remember the glowing crystal city and how it seemed to be an excellent idea to go there.

I can’t say that I don’t fear death less than anyone else, I’m not in their heads and can’t judge that. My guess is I fear death as much as the next person, and for me it’s more about the method of dying that frightens me rather than the actual event. I have a strong desire to live my life and do it well, to the limits of my ability. Maybe that comes from the NDE, maybe it’s just how I am. What I do know is that I am very spiritual and the idea of a higher being seems like a no brainer. I don’t attend church but I have a very strong sense of right and wrong, and have always tried to do the best for those around me.

The recent article in The Daily Mail suggests that children who have had NDEs go on to lead a charmed life. Perhaps I have a habit of making things complicated, but this certainly hasn’t happened for me. I had a very rough relationship in my early twenties, but escaped and have been in a rock solid marriage since. I’ve never had a problem with drink or drugs. Sometimes I think of myself as a cat with nine lives, and wonder when they will run out. At the age of 40 I was diagnosed with advanced bowel cancer.

A year and a half later and I am still here, fighting. I would say this, rather than my NDE has given me the incentive to live out my dreams. Fear of a short life eggs me on, makes me accomplish things I might otherwise not have. It makes me love my family more and try harder to be a better mum. Recently I ended up in hospital for a week after a reaction to my chemo. I was in the worst pain imaginable. These things that happen to me help my state of mind, I know now that I can handle and survive excruciating pain. This is no longer a fear. But I have the NDE in my back pocket letting me know that when the time eventually comes, there is a wonderful place to go for my next stage of existence.

That Elusive CureThat Elusive Cure

Lisa has created the most marvelous novel in her collection of both fiction and nonfiction books. This is a must-read book about a fictional character, Kathy Wyatt, who is very familiar to those who know and love Lisa.

Here’s the blurb from the book jacket:

Kathy is going to die. All that’s left to do is prepare for the end.

While waiting for her chemotherapy session, a woman called Janie approaches Kathy, offering a revolutionary treatment for cancer. Janie pitches the cure like an expert and what does Kathy have to lose? The doctors now measure her life in months, not years.

Kathy follows Janie to an abandoned church where a futuristic machine is hidden. Made of silvery metal, long, and with rounded edges, the pod is like nothing Kathy’s ever seen before. Janie encourages her to climb in telling her the process is painless and quick. A few sessions are all she’ll need to be cured. Despite serious reservations, what does she have to lose? She gets in. And the results are miraculous.

A few days later, when the wonderful sense of well-being she experienced begins to ebb, all she can think about is having another session. In spite of the apparent improvement, Kathy’s renewed energy is soured by doubt. What exactly is this machine? What if none of this is real and the next MRI shows all the tumors are still there? Time is so short…

THAT ELUSIVE CURE is about facing up to illness, both mental and physical, of family struggle and above all, the amazing power of hope.

John Denver Messages of Wisdom and Love

Dana Review by Dana Taylor

UPDATE: 2019–Unfortunately, these books are no longer available through Amazon.com. However, I have contacted the author, Janice Hunneybell, and she sent me PDF files of both manuscripts. If anyone would like to receive the manuscripts, free of charge, please send me a request at supernalfriends@yahoo.com.–Dana Taylor

Australian spiritual author, Janice Hunneybell, has collaborated with the spirit of singer, John Denver, on two of the best channeled books I have read. THINGS THAT I BELIEVE IN and ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE are inspirational guideposts to wise living. Sure, I can hear the skeptics scoffing–John Denver?  “Rocky Mountain High.”  She was high on something, alright. All I can say is, read with an open mind. The voice of the material certainly sounds like it could come from John Denver, especially THINGS THAT I BELIEVE IN. Interestingly, there seemed to be less “voice” in ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE and Jan addresses that in her ending words about the writing experience. Yet, the wisdom is all there.

The truth is, the source of the material hardly matters, because the spiritual insights are so solid. These are good principles for living. The ultimate message is one of hope and joy. I read the books slowly, to begin my days and lead into meditation and prayer time. I recommend them for anyone consciously seeking a spiritual journey.

Janice Hunneybell is an inspirational spiritual writer. Her books, ‘Things That I Believe In’ and ‘All You Need Is Love’, are channeled spiritual communication from John, who shares his views and philosophy of life and meaning. ‘Things That I Believe In’ was first published in 2008 and is now a kindle e-book. It has been popular with people who want to understand more about life and spirituality. It is easily read but informative and has brought great comfort to people dealing with grief and loss. ‘All You Need Is Love’ was published as an e-book in January 2014. A paperback edition is planned later in 2014 along with collections of her poetry, talks, songs and essays. After a career in administration, Janice chose to follow a path of spirituality, writing, healing (Reiki Master), channeling/mediumship and teaching, giving talks and facilitating workshops on spiritual development and inspirational writing. Born in London, England, Janice now lives in the Dandenong Ranges near Melbourne, Australia with her husband Gordon and a slightly deranged but very sweet cat. An indulgent mother and grandmother to two adult children and four grandchildren, she also seems to have been adopted by a variety of local wildlife including possums, magpies and kookaburras…

Hawaiian Cemetery’s Unique Energy Vortex

ChineseHanging out in Hawaii has definite advantages – tropical breezes, fish tacos, beautiful birds, interesting hiking opportunities. Yesterday I set off to visit one of my favorite spots– the enchanting Monoa Chinese Cemetery.  As I trudged up the hillside surrounded by headstones etched in Chinese characters, weathered with age, the place seemed to be welcoming me back.

photo-11The history of the MCC fascinates me. A black marble tablet etched in gold letters tells the story of a Chinese worker named Lum Ching, a Feng Shui Master.  He used “magic” instruments to measure the magnetic energy of the earth. Around 1850 he discovered the “chi” of the Monoa Valley was captured and heightened in a certain area. He declared, “We are at an extraordinary spot. It is the pulse of the watchful dragon of the valley. People will come from across the seas and gather here to pay homage. Birds, too, will come to sing and roost. It is a haven suitable for the living as well as the dead. The Chinese people must buy this area and keep it as sacred ground.”

The Lin Yee Chung Association was formed to purchase land. By 1896, 27 acres had been acquired. A perpetual charter was granted by the Kingdom of Hawaii in 1889.

photo-10

Today the graves  are looked over by a massive banyan tree planted 100 years ago by a relative of Lum Ching to honor his final resting place at the top of the hill. While the cemetery is quiet during the day, it is often busy at night as tourists are led to the tree on a haunted tour of Honolulu. A few years ago my Supernal friend, Paula, took the tour and had an amazing experience inside the banyan tree. Patterns of lightning-like energy was picked up by several cameras. She heard voices in the tree that evening.

Here are a couple of the fascinating pictures caught of Paula as she prayed standing in the heart of the banyan tree.

Paula 2 Paula1

I didn’t hear anything but the singing of birds on my trip yesterday, but the feeling of peace and love was palpable. Beneath the canopy of the banyan tree, I gazed to the horizon, past the Honolulu skyline, clear to the aqua sea. Events of my life played in my mind; loved ones here and on the otherside painted through memory like a water-colored mural by Monet.

photo-12Using the Lord’s Prayer to open my chakras, I felt the expansion of my energy centers and allowed the special frequency of the MCC “chi” to swirl into my auric field. Cleansing, healing, empowering.

Though not as well known as Sedona and Stonehenge, the Monoa Chinese Cemetery is another unique energy vortex where earth opens a door to heaven.

Past-Life Regression on a Hardwood Floor

UPDATE September 2014:

Mira Kelley now has a book out, which is on my TBR list. Hay House is very selective about their authors. If you’re intrigued by past lives, check out Ms. Kelley. Below is my impression of her from the workshop I attended last year.

Beyond Past Lives: What Parallel Realities Can Teach Us About Relationships, Healing and Transformation by Mira Kelley

Last fall I saw a facebook ad for a Past-Life Regression workshop in Santa Monica with Mira Kelley. I had never heard of her, but with a quick click, I read her website and watched a couple of YouTube clips about her. She has risen to fame via endorsements by the New Age heavy-hitter, Wayne Dyer, no less. Since Santa Monica is a only a few freeways to the west, I decided to pony up the price of admission and go check out Ms. Kelley for myself.

The session took place at a yoga studio. Ms. Kelley sat on a cushion on a platform and the rest of us staked out a place on a hard, shiny wooden floor for FIVE hours with only a thin mat and pillow to keep us comfortable. I must say, I did fairly well for a woman who remembers the day that Kennedy was shot. Mira first told us her personal story on the path to making past life therapy her vocation. You can hear all the details for yourself at her website, MIRA KELLEY.

Mira Kelley mirakelley.comMira is a lovely woman with a lilting voice, colored with a slight Eastern European accent. Hypnosis is her game, and she has just the right tone for it. Smooth as glass, rhythmic and lulling as a rocking chair. When we finally got to the part to lay down (on that HARD floor), her sing-song sentences sent many right into another time and place. There were a few snores, as well. Afterwards, people shared fascinating tales.

Personally, I’ve had more coherent past-life recollections in the comfort of my living room, where my limbs weren’t losing circulation, using meditation techniques and linking to the Akashic Records. Still, Mira is a compelling personality and I’m glad I had the opportunity to spend the hours in her presence.

Kelley is part of a growing contingent of educated, thinking people taking reincarnation seriously. They work with clients on current life issues by exploring the influences of previous lives. If you’ve read my story in EVER-FLOWING STREAMS: TAPPING INTO HEALING ENERGY, you know that my world view changed radically when a past-life connection was revealed to me by a Reiki therapist. My life was changed and healed on many levels. It took me several years to come to terms with all the ramifications of that connection.

Mira has posted the one hour documentary IN ANOTHER LIFE on her website. It is the best film I have seen highlighting the pioneers of Western study on reincarnation, Dr. Ian Stevenson (Children Who Remember Previous Lives) and Carol Bowman (Children’s Past Lives). There are many other people interviewed who deal with past life therapy on a daily basis. If you want to spend a fascinating hour, watch IN ANOTHER LIFE:REINCARNATION IN AMERICA

Healer Reveals Soul Secrets

21 Layers of the Soul: Healing the Karmic Ties with Friends, Lovers, Family and Enemies by Annemiek Douw, MSc is one of the most fascinating metaphysical books I’ve read in quite a while. Douw is a Dutch healer with a busy European practice. As is often the case, her personal physical and emotional traumas led to unusual paths and extraordinary healing abilities.

Part One describes her personal journey. Part Two gets into the meat of the material—explaining the 21 Layers of the human auric field. Most of us who grasp the concept of auras have come to envision what she labels as layers 1-4: Physical, Emotional, Mental, and Astral. Beyond that, Douw defines various layers that reveal our complicated relationships through time and space. We are individuals, but we are also part of families, races, soul groups, humanity and many other categories. As the layers progress, they become less individual and more inter-related.

The author explains each layer and then illustrates with case studies of clients dealing with personal issues that brought them to her door. As someone who also works in energy healing, I was envious of her ability to read auric fields and pinpoint where a client needed help.

The material supposes a world view of past lives and karmic ties. Working with her spiritual guides, Douw hones in on specific past lives to explain current life situations. As I’ve seen in other books on similar subject matter, people often carry erroneous life lessons from one experience to another. For instance, in a very simplistic example, if someone dies by drowning, their last thoughts may be “never go swimming.” This leads to an “irrational” fear of swimming in the next life. As a healer, Douw goes in and works in the proper energy field to release that past life fear and rewrite their life script. The case histories reveal much more complicated issues. If there is truth to the concepts of this book, we all are influenced by thoughts and experiences far beyond our conscious awareness.

This book is an important addition to the lexicon of metaphysical books on spiritual healing. In this day of expanding consciousness, our understanding of the human experience continues to grow. If you’re ready to widen your world view, read Annemiek Douw’s 21 Layers of the Soul.
