Visionary Tale of Nazis, Templars, and the Holy Grail

Before the Nazis, Rahn had researched the medieval French Cathars, a heretical sect exterminated by war and the Inquisition, and he published his account of this tragedy as Crusade against the Grail. His book fascinated Reichsführer-SS Heinrich Himmler, an occult fanatic, who then enticed Otto into the SS as a historical researcher. Gambling that Otto’s psychic talents might lead to the recovery of the coveted Holy Grail for the Nazis, Himmler coddled the writer, even condoning his illegal homosexuality. Then Rahn came to discover that the SS and its operations were far from benign.

After Otto’s demise, Raymond knew that his partner’s work deserved recognition, but as a genuine Grail bearer and not as a member of the SS. To do this, Raymond had to recover his own unique gift: a phenomenal memory that took him back to the Cathar era where the men’s mutual mission, which could only be carried out with them riding two to a horse in the way of the Knights Templar, was first entrusted to them.

About the Author

Victor E. Smith became a generalist, as opposed to a specialist, seemingly by fate. From childhood on a Pennsylvania communal farm, to adolescence in a Catholic seminary, then into adulthood with occupations that ranged from counselor and teacher to printing entrepreneur and corporate computer trainer, all while parenting three children, Vic remains astounded, often stunned, by the variety, both wonderful and terrible, inherent in human life. Such awe has always compelled him to write. From his first “book” of poems as a teenager; through experimental plays, poetry, and short stories in his twenties; with volumes of educational and technical writing throughout his work career, he finally settled on the novel as his writing mode of choice.

In the last two weeks, my husband and I have welcomed a new dog into the family. Luke is a friendly, almost two year old, Golden Retriever who has had a rough start in life. New Documentary Shines Light on Medical Alternatives

Filmmaker Jeff Hays takes on the status quo via the medium of documentaries. In Bought he revealed the unholy alliance between big government, big pharma, and big agra. His latest film, Breakthroughs, (free to view online through May 3) shines a light on seven different alternative health care providers. Rather than beating an anti-establishment drum, Breakthroughs gives seven examples of people who searched for health, often personally or for their families, and then went on to share what they found with the world.

The personal stories are varied and interesting–a wild salmon fisherman, a genetic nutritionist cancer survivor, an athletic specialist chiropractor, a skin specialist speaking of “skinflammation,” and more. The emphasis is often on nutrition, departing from toxic chemicals, and lifestyle changes.

The most interesting segment to me focused on Dr. Jason West, DC NMD FIAMA DABCN. Dr. West is a fourth generation chiropractor practicing in Pochatella, Idaho. Building on his family’s foundation, he has broadened his clinic into an all-encompassing comprehensive medical facility. He offers what ideally could be the doctor office of the future. Patients develop a team of physicians tailor made for their particular situation. People often find Dr. West after years of ineffective medical treatment. His staff includes an MD and a variety of alternative medicine experts in nutrition, blood chemistry, clinical nutrition, medical microscopy, herbal, homeopathic, intravenous micronutrient therapy and chelation therapy.

Breakthroughs offers a glimpse of out-of-the-box thinking. In a society so engulfed by a drugs-cure-everything mentality, this film presents people pursuing good health through other methods. Much of it comes down to common sense–eat right, exercise, sleep well. Yet, in our fast food society the simplest lifestyle changes could be precisely the breakthrough many people are missing. Though the film ignores any spiritual, mind body connections, it still offers valuable information for seekers of a happier, healthier life.

If you know someone caught in a cycle of chronic disease and confusion, Breakthroughs might give them a spark of encouragement to seek new directions for health and a sense of personal empowerment.

This was an enjoyable read that followed the lives of Nicholas and Helena Roerich as they fled the Russian revolution traveling the world looking to bring a measure of spirituality and art into everyday life. Although not a name recognized today, Roerich was very well known from the 20s until his death in 1947. He was primarily an artist who left a vast legacy of paintings (most of which remain in Russia). But he was also a bit of a Renaissance man dabbling in archeology, spirituality, travel, and efforts at conservation and world unity. Equally interesting was his wife, Helena, who was a psychic and healer who had contact with some of the Masters known to the Theosophists.
