If you’re interested in exploring the realm of spirit communication, It Will All Make Sense When You’re Dead by psychic medium Priscilla Keresey is a good place to begin.

In a matter-of-fact tone, she explains how she developed as a medium and many of the things she has learned. While she offers some examples of client communications with loved ones, she also does of good job of presenting how spirit communicators function. From exploring the various “clairs”—clairvoyant, clairsentient, clairaudient—to explaining common symbols utilized by mediums, she takes a lot of the mystery out of the process. Like many other things, spirit communication begins with a talent and grows into a skill through practice and application.

She also answers commonly asked questions and demonstrates how communication with spirit people can offer healing to those on the earthly realm. Far from being a book of ghost tales, this is a handbook for spirit communication and sheds light on the interplay between dimensions of realities.

Finding Home by Melanie Rose

This novel turned out to be a real surprise. I picked it up at the library and I’m not exactly sure why (unless my “team” picked it for me). Anyway, it turned out to be a very interesting blend of mystery with past-life recall thrown into the mix.

The story begins with a woman driving into a storm and getting lost on a country road. The car slides into a tree and the woman attempts to walk out. She soon faints and is picked up by a man and carried to a nearby country cottage. She awakens not knowing who she is, but everything feels  strangely familiar.  The story develops with many well-drawn characters, a sick little girl, her father, the housekeeper and her psychiatrist brother, the farmer and his family up the road. The woman, who takes on the name “Kate,” agrees to be hypnotized in hopes of remembering her identity. Instead, she recalls a life as “Kitty” from the late 1800’s. Increasingly, the past seems to be affecting the present. The author does a good job of tying all the story lines together.

Reincarnation, mystery, a dash of romance—what more could any Supernal reader want?

Visionary Journey with Native American Soul

On the Mountain by June O’Brien is a unique mixture of story-telling, poetic imagery, and mysticism.

Set in the wilderness region of the Northwest, we are introduced to Ruby, a visionary medicine woman caught up in her latest calling to a particular area on the mountain. She readies herself for a journey, feeling the strong pull, but not knowing exactly what lies ahead. After a perilous drive, she parks her car and waits. As dawn lights, she recognizes with fear and trepidation, an Old One, a come-to-life mythical Sasquatch creature that persist in global folklore. Though no longer young, Ruby knows she must heed to call wherever the Old Ones take her. Thus, begins a book that defies genre description, though the new “visionary fiction” category probably is the best bet. The author’s personal lineage of medicine women and healers and knowledge of Native American traditions forms a fascinating foundation for the first book in the Blue Child Series.

While this is Ruby’s book, we are also introduced to her sisters, Agnes and Grace, who both have special talents and missions related to their Native American heritage. By the end of On The Mountain, many questions are raised that must be answered in the sequels. Who exactly is this Blue Child? For that matter—who or what exactly is Ruby? What powers on earth and in the stars are working on the planet?

O’Brien’s writing style is fluid and poetic, painting the scenes in the mind like a literary Monet. It’s a beautiful and intriguing book. Definitely out of the ordinary. Take an imaginary trip—On The Mountain.

The Sooner Spirit shines in PROUD HEART

I interrupt this “supernal” blog to announce a new release from my “romantic” side. Yes, I have a new book out. PROUD HEART is my love letter to my years in Oklahoma. As a California girl who suddenly found herself a new bride in the Sooner State, I experienced definite culture shock. For instance, strangers who crossed my path actually looked me in the eye and smiled. Some even said, “Howdy.” (For real. “Howdy.” ) Neighbors came over to introduce themselves. Everyone went to church. Oklahomans ate black eye beans on New Years Day and grew okra in summer gardens. When we bought our first home, my neighbor, Mrs. Blakely, was a woman in her 70’s who had been a teacher in a one-room school house. Great Little House on the Prairie!

The close-knit culture harkened back to a unique historical event–the Oklahoma Land Run of 1889.

As the years passed and my children participated in Land Run Day events, I became fascinated with the idea of a state being settled in one day. A sort of Big Bang Theory toward statehood. What kind of people would leave everything they knew to line up in the wilderness and make a mad dash for free land? (160 acres to call their own if they could stick it out for five years.) They came in two varieties–the Boomers and the Sooners.

1. Boomers–they made the run legally after the shot was fired.

2. Sooners–they got to their spots “Sooner,” having sneaked into the Unassigned Territories before the sanctioned hour and staked out their claims.

PROUD HEART grew out of that fascination. Of course, a good story needs a solid cast of characters.
